DOG STORY THEATRE
Grand Rapids, MI (2024)
Project Size: xxx Sq. Ft
Dogstory Theater is a commercial renovation adapts a previous pizza parlor in a 100+ year old historically contributing structure into a black-box theatre for a small community theatre company. Through a review of fire safety and building codes it proposes structural and accessibility updates as well as programmatic arrangements within a ceiling-mounted curtain to minimize interventions while maximizing use of the space. As an assembly space and a special land use in the Heritage Hill Historic District, the project had to navigate significant scrutiny for an aged structure and provide a new accessible toilet room and a ramp off the back of the building.
Something to do with the curtain?
