(2010)(unbuilt project)
This competition entry combines memorials for Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom into concentric ribbons that articulate a figured inscription within the landscape. The inscription itself sinks below to create a space for reflection separate from the datum of the ground. Each undulating ribbon creates a typology of spatial forms: fingers and alcoves, valleys and overlooks, niches and entrances. Together, the family of different forms create figures at the scale of the site as well as at the scale of a person, simultaneously generating a whole landscape for reflection and an individual moment for grief and remembrance.
