Los Angeles, California (2009)
The commercial exterior envelope at Hollywood and Orange houses the Los Angeles franchise for Madame Tussaud’s wax museum. The shell’s form consists of zinc and glass “folded” planes interacting with undulating masonry walls. The C.M.U. walls slant and bow relative to each other as a set of ruled surfaces while also manipulating the bond and texture of the wall by transitioning between running and stacked bonds for masonry units with exaggerated horizontal proportions.
